What’s on your Bucket List?

What’s on your Bucket List? Was the theme set by Fraser our MC for the day. As He introduced us to the various speakers today, we learned one of the bucket list items that each person had. He started by informing us that his one desire was to visit the ancient site of Petra and gave us an impressive slide on the screen of the city’s edifices carved out of Sand stone rock cliffs.

A highlight that took everyone by surprise at was Roy Val Clery breaking out in song with guitar singing ‘So this is Christmas”. He did this as a tribute on the anniversary of the fatal shooting of John Lennon who authored the song. Roy had the room rocking away and singing along to his version.

Another Highlight was in our imposture speech segment Roydon was asked to talk about one bucket list item he had achieved in the past. Without hesitation he said he decided early in life that he did not want to do life alone, so his bucket list wish was to find a good girl to marry. He went on to describe how he had achieved that, and she was a great treasure in his life, and they are still together after many years. Well, every heart was moved, some to tears of joy at his happiness.

One of the interesting speeches today was Natalie titled “To Burn or Not to burn”. Having visited Canada to attend a music festival that got cancelled, Natalie shared photos of her trip and how the fires this season had consumed so much more forest than previous year because the Government had banned Cultural burning. This is where the local indigenous people burn off ground cover vegetation annually. The effect is that it limits a full forest fire from taking hold in the fire season. Comparing pre ban figures of hectors burnt to post ban figures clearly showed the reduction of hectors destroyed before the ban.

Toastie award went to Richard Lipscombe for his speech “From Boring to Brilliant” Presented by last week’s winner Andrew.

Speaking of winners Richard Smart received his cup for winning the Club humorous speech competition this year and now goes to the next interclub level competitions to represent our club against other club winners.
